Assess graduate students' understanding of key Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) concepts for analyzing cohesion in academic research articles. Test identification and explanation of cohesion resources (reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction, lexical cohesion), cohesion chains/texture, Theme–Rheme and given/new information, and the impact of register (field, tenor, mode) and grammatical metaphor. Include short excerpts for analytic identification of devices and prompts requiring justification of how these elements create textual unity and guide reader interpretation.
