Assess students’ ability to apply systemic functional linguistics (SFL) to analyze the rhetorical organization of academic research articles: identify and label rhetorical moves/sections, map moves to SFL metafunctions (ideational, interpersonal, textual), analyze lexicogrammatical choices (transitivity, theme/rheme, cohesion, appraisal, register), and justify interpretations with textual evidence and move-function reasoning.
