Assess the ethical and aesthetic implications of restoring versus conserving damaged historical paintings. Test students' ability to evaluate principles such as authenticity, artist intent, historical integrity, reversibility, materials and documentation; to weigh stakeholder perspectives (curators, public, descendant communities) and legal/cultural frameworks; and to justify a recommended course of action—using at least one case study—to produce a conservation plan that balances aesthetic outcomes with ethical responsibilities.
