Test students' ability to apply archival research and performance‑studies methods to reconstruct staging practices and audience reception of Restoration comedy (1660–1710). Tasks include close analysis of primary sources (playtexts, promptbooks, playbills, diaries such as Pepys, theatre accounts, costume/scenery inventories, contemporary criticism), application of performance theory and material‑culture approaches, critical assessment of source reliability, formulation of a justified staged reconstruction, and evidence-based inferences about audience composition, behaviour, and reception while addressing methodological limitations.
