Test undergraduate students' ability to recall characteristic infrared (IR) absorption frequency ranges (in cm⁻¹) and typical spectral features (broad vs. sharp, strong vs. weak) for common organic functional groups: O–H (alcohols/phenols), N–H (amines/amides), C=O (carbonyls), C≡N (nitriles), C≡C (alkynes), C=C (alkenes/aromatics), and C–H stretches (alkyl, vinyl, aromatic); include recognition of typical ranges, common overlaps/shifts, and distinguishing features.
