Assess students’ ability to evaluate a character’s choices in short picture stories and select the most appropriate ending. Tasks include identifying motivations and goals from illustrations and minimal text, generating plausible alternative endings, predicting consequences for each ending, and justifying the chosen ending with explicit evidence from pictures and dialogue. Require students to rank endings using simple criteria (e.g., safety, kindness, problem-solving) and explain why other options are less effective; include a brief rubric and suggestions for oral, pictorial, or sentence-level responses appropriate for Pre-K–Grade 2 targeting higher-order evaluation skills.
