Using short essay excerpts, students will locate cohesive devices (reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunctions, lexical cohesion), map thematic progression and information structure, explain how discourse markers and referential ties support thesis and paragraph unity, and propose targeted revisions to improve logical flow. Emphasize accurate use of discourse terminology and justification of analytic choices.
