Test students' ability to apply hydrologic principles to size a stormwater detention basin for a schoolyard. Given a rainfall intensity, impervious area, and runoff coefficients, students should calculate peak runoff (using the rational method or equivalent), determine the required storage volume to capture a specified storm or meet a target outflow, propose basin dimensions and outlet rate, and justify assumptions, unit conversions, safety and maintenance considerations, and site constraints.
