Assess students' ability to design and execute a corpus-based study of metaphor use in contemporary political speeches, including corpus compilation and sampling, preprocessing and annotation, application of metaphor identification procedures (e.g., MIPVU), use of concordance, keyword, collocation and semantic prosody analyses, appropriate statistical testing (e.g., chi-square, log-likelihood, effect sizes), interpretation of results in political discourse contexts, attention to metadata and comparative (genre/temporal) analyses, and reflection on reproducibility, validity, and ethical considerations.
