Assess students' ability to apply quantitative reasoning to compare rooftop solar PV, grid electricity, and natural gas for heating a small school building: estimate annual heating energy demand, size systems or fuel needs, compute lifecycle energy use, annual and lifetime costs (capital, maintenance, fuel/electricity), and CO2 emissions using given assumptions (insulation, climate/solar insolation, grid carbon intensity, fuel and electricity prices); interpret results and justify a recommended option.
