Assess students' ability to blend and segment beginning, medial, and ending phonemes to read and spell simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. Tasks include blending three phonemes to read pictured or written CVC words, selecting or writing letters to represent each phoneme for dictated CVC words, and manipulating phonemes to form new CVC words. Focus is on short vowel patterns, common consonant sounds, and accurate phoneme–grapheme mapping; appropriate for Pre-K–Grade 2 learners at a medium difficulty level to measure applied decoding and encoding skills.
