Test the graduate student's ability to apply machine learning and NLP techniques to preprocess, classify, and summarize qualitative interview transcripts within mixed-methods social science research; scope includes annotation and labeling strategies, feature engineering and embeddings, choice of supervised/unsupervised classifiers and summarization methods (extractive/abstractive), evaluation metrics (precision/recall/F1, ROUGE), integration with human coding and triangulation, interpretability, reproducibility, and ethical/data-management considerations, with an emphasis on applied decision-making and justification of methods.
