Assess students' ability to apply primary-source analysis to evaluate differing U.S., Soviet, and Cuban perspectives on the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Given a curated set of primary documents (e.g., presidential memos, Khrushchev letters, Castro statements, intelligence photos, and diplomatic cables), students will identify authors' purposes and viewpoints, evaluate credibility and bias, corroborate across sources, and construct a supported explanation of why interpretations differed and how those perspectives influenced decisions and outcomes. Tasks include short source analyses and one extended response using at least three primary sources to justify conclusions.
