Assess graduate students' ability to apply archival research and hermeneutic interpretation to reconstruct performance practices of 18th‑century French theatre. Scope: close analysis of primary materials (playtexts, promptbooks, stage directions, correspondence, account books, iconography), archival techniques (provenance, paleography, cataloguing, metadata), hermeneutic/contextual methods (textual interpretation, performance theory, sociohistorical context), and formulation of justified production decisions (casting, staging, movement, music, vocal ornamentation, costume) with critical evaluation of evidentiary limits. Task: short source-based analysis and a concise reconstruction plan.
