Test students' ability to apply watershed-scale best management practices (BMPs) to reduce agricultural nutrient loading by identifying nutrient sources and transport pathways, selecting and adapting structural and non-structural BMPs (e.g., cover crops, buffer strips, nutrient management plans, constructed wetlands), estimating relative effectiveness and cost/trade-offs at the watershed scale using basic hydrologic or nutrient-transport reasoning or simple model outputs, and designing monitoring and adaptive-management strategies that incorporate stakeholder constraints and scale-dependent challenges.
