Assess students' understanding of energy flow in ecosystems by testing definitions (producers, consumers, decomposers), identification and construction of food chains and food webs, explanation of trophic levels, interpretation and sketching of energy pyramids (including typical energy transfer percentages such as the 10% rule), simple energy transfer calculations, and short analyses of how species removal or invasions alter energy flow and ecosystem stability.
