Test graduate-level understanding of carbon cycling in temperate peatlands under shifting water-table regimes, including how water-table rise/fall influences peat accumulation, aerobic vs. anaerobic decomposition, CO2 and CH4 fluxes, and net ecosystem carbon balance; assess knowledge of feedback mechanisms to regional and global climate, impacts of drainage, drought, and rewetting, and the interpretation of empirical measurements and simple models to predict carbon-climate responses and management implications.
