Test students' ability to analyze and compare cinematography and montage/editing practices in Soviet montage theory and Classical Hollywood editing (1920–1940). Assess knowledge of key concepts and practitioners (Kuleshov, Eisenstein, Vertov; continuity editing principles), formal techniques (shot scale, camera movement, framing, metric/tonal/intellectual montage, match-on-action, 180° rule, cross-cutting), and the ideological/aesthetic functions of these systems through close analysis of representative sequences and justified, evidence-based interpretations.
