Test students' ability to produce a polished short story (800–1,200 words) that employs an unreliable narrator, non-linear chronology, and at least three recurring symbols to critique a contemporary social issue; include a separate 200–300-word author’s commentary that explains how the unreliable voice, fragmented timeline, and each recurring symbol advance the central theme. Assess narrative control (voice, pacing, cohesion), effective use of symbolic repetition, clarity and subtlety of social critique, originality, and adherence to word counts and genre conventions. Appropriate for Grades 9–12, advanced-level creative tasks.
