Assess students' ability to apply the engineering design process to plan, build, test, and evaluate a simple shelter that keeps a small toy dry using natural (leaves, sticks) and classroom materials (paper, plastic, tape). Evaluate selection of materials, predicting outcomes, safe construction, a simulated rain test, observation/recording of results, and reflection on improvements; appropriate for Pre-K–Grade 2 group work and formative assessment.
