Assess students' understanding of the U.S. constitutional separation of powers and checks and balances, including the constitutional sources (Articles I–III, key clauses), institutional roles of Congress, the President, and the Judiciary, principal mechanisms of interbranch control (veto, appropriations, appointments, impeachment, judicial review, treaties, war powers, oversight), leading Supreme Court precedents, and application to short hypothetical interbranch conflicts.
